Aunt Shirley was an extraordinary human who felt like a gift to everyone she touched. As we support Fred Ken & Debbie, please join me in sharing your favourite memories and stories of her. She left an incredible mark on us all, especially during our childhood.
My childhood memories are sparse, but the day of my mother‘s wake I recall my Aunt Shirley. I remember crying.-not out of grief, as I was too young to understand death, but because the collective sadness in the room felt overwhelming.
Aunt Shirley came to my rescue. I can still feel her dabbing my face with a tissue. While her words have faded, the feeling remains: a small bit of clarity… It is one of only three faint memories I have of that day.
They say nothing is ever truly lost, only transformed. Aunt Shirley became one of the many women who stepped into fill the void that my mother left behind. Even now, the taste of homemade strawberry jam brings her back to me instantly. Thank you Aunt Shirley.
