Notes for Capt. Henry Richard Squarebriggs
MKM: one daughter m. Ewan Anderson of Ch'town.
Was a Sea Captain and Master Mariner. They lived in the village, but Henry was one of the family who sailed the Squarebriggs vessels with the import and export trade. The early Census records show the Squarebriggs families living in various locations across the island. Included are such places as Montrose, Alma, Lot 56 133 Kings Co, Pinette, Sturgeon or Ch'town. Owned a vessel that sailed out of Stanley Bridge. Daniel "Red Dan" MacKay sailed with him in younger years.
???: Daniel Ross purchased land ? not clear - from Daniel Sq. Apr 14, 1886 [I presume this is store prop.]
1. J. Cabridge (Deed #191) - Nov. 30, 1829 - 50A. to Henry Sq.
2. Henry Sq. to George Sq. - L.14 F 213 - Sept. 14, 1867 - 50 A. - in early map [1860s?] Henry owned 50A. where Lorraine Caseley owns land now - across Glynde Rd. John Sq owned 52A - I believe Ferrish's owned the 100A. at one time.
3. Henry and James Sq. to Ben. Rogers - L.95 809 - Sept 14, 1867 - plot of land [Rogers men were boat builders - this could have been an access to the shore - haven't found his name as selling land.]
Cambridge and Cunard claimed ownership of Lot 21. No doubt they were considered the "absentee landlords."
