Norval remembers making this when his elderly, plump, Aunt Helene deForrest Rothwell† was visitng, and we invited our friends Bob & Dave for a celebratory supper. Earlier in the meal, Helene had mentioned that she was diabetic, and when she asked for a second helping of the extremely rich cake, Dave, an RN, said, "aaahh… didn't you mention that you were diabetic?" She responded, "It's OK, I'll just go up to my room and take some more insulin," and Dave gasped in horror and said, "ah… you can't do that" but Helene ignored him, and when she was out of earshot Dave said something about being off duty; I'm sure he was thinking about Helene's sugar going wonky and him having to adminster emergency aid. But it didn't, and Helene lived a very full life for many years after.
