Greg's Chili

Melanie writes: I don’t actually have a recipe of Gregs to share, but I do have this story.

When Greg accepted a job in Ottawa in the mid 80’s, his friends had a going away party for him in Economy, and I was invited. The plan was that I would pick Greg up at his house, and we would drive to Economy (since I didn’t know where the party was to be held).

When I get to the house to pick Greg up, he is ready to leave with a pot of chili he made for the party. I am very briefly introduced to your mom, as Greg hurries me toward the car. In the car, he starts laughing and saying "sorry, but I had to leave!" It turns out he had made his chili with hash in it, for the party.

Apparently, you mom had a bowl of it while it was on the stove! She had told Greg, "I don’t know why, but I haven’t felt this good in a while." I don’t think your mom ever knew.

I should add that I laugh whenever the IKEA ad comes on (start the car, start the car!) because it reminds me of that evening.

Feel free to use it whatever way you see fit! (There's probably a book of Greg stories to be written....)

My father actually has Greg’s chilli recipes in our mothers recipe book lol

Mama always said hers was never as good as Greg’s! I guess it was the secret ingredient!
