Process
- Use a Seasonal Menu so that you usually cook with local ingredients that are [[in_season?]].
- It's very easy to do this if you get a weekly local organic [[grocery_food_box?]] and [[recipes?]] from the extremely cute Geordi.
- Buy your food at a [[Farmers_Market?]] in your area. Even there, [[check_the_labels?]] or ask to find out where the food [[Where_Did_It_Come_From?|came from]], because lots of the stalls in the Farmer's Market [[redistribute?]] stuff "[[from_away?]]" and the [[shipping?]] is a far greater fraction of the price you pay, than what the [[Farmers?|farmer]] got.
- [[Grow_Your_Own?]] food. Even in the [[city?]], you can do this on any scale, from a sunny [[back_yard?]] full of [[Grow_Potatoes?|potato]] and [[Grow_Tomatoes?|tomato]] plants, to a [[windowbox?]] full of [[Grow_Herbs?|herbs]]. Parsley, rosemary, thyme, oregano, mint, and chives are good first choices. After doing it for a while you should examine the [[DIY_Efficiency?]].
- Look at the labelling. All food is marked with where it comes from -- sort of. Raw ingredient labelling is accurate, but for example, a frozen dinner can say Made In Canada' but all the ingredients could come from China.
