Solaris 10 Virtualization

Virtualizing Solaris 10 on Solaris 10 (Older builds)

The Problem: Sometimes vendors stop supporting a certain OS, at a certain revision level, or environments need to "freeze" the development of systems at a certain patch level for everything to "work".

UltraSparc Issues

VirtualBox

VirtualBox is not support on non-x86 processors.1

VMWare

VMWare Player only supports x86 hosts for Linux and Windows.

OpenSolaris Brandz

OpenSolaris 2 is looking forward to adding Solaris10 branded zones in the near future, if not already released into the code. It is unknown if this will work on both Intel and Sparc.3

Xen

Solaris 8 & 9

Solaris 8 and 9 brands are supported natively on Solaris10 for UltraSparc.
