Notes for John MacNeill
Born in Campbelltown, County of Argyll on the Kintyre peninsula of Scotland.

Came to P.E.I. in 1770 or 1772 .

He remained in Charlottetown for some time but eventually settled in Cavendish as a farmer. He became known as one of the founders of Cavendish. They had 12 children - John, William (Old Speaker) 1781, Malcolm 1784, Neil, James1789, Ellen 1790, Charles, Daniel 1793, Euphemia 1794, Janet 1798, and David 1803.

Their eldest son, William Simpson, was born in 1781 and became well known as speaker of the P.E.I. House of Assembly
