Purpose

To showcase an ultraenergy efficient house derived from standard plans any new homeowner may pick out. To achieve a R-85 on energuide for new homes while having a beatuful and functional home.

Economics & Performance

Sub $1000 per year utility costs, home is warm in winter, cool in summer. The due south exposure and internal layout of the house always ensure warmth and sun in main living areas and master bedroom. The north side is protected further by garage and spare rooms, all adding to ease of heating. Under the heated slab is 3" of styrofoam that butts up to the 3" of stryofoam over the cement walls. This ensure our heat in the floor has no where to trvael or "sync" to other than area requiring the warmth. The effectiveness of the infloor is incredibly high with solar and the tankless water heat integrated seemlessly together. Add to this the passive heat the sun delivers in the winter and the heat demand is only limited to the nights.

What would we do different?

Try a HRV with a new ECM motor and possibly a hot water coil to use our solar for a third application.
