To assist the environment and save energy.
To improve efficiency by using sustainable and natural forms of energy such as solar and wind generators at both home and the cottage. All of these systems work very well in their respective areas due to careful site selection.
Just great, paid for itself many times over already, has been installed for 5 years.
Tall trees are located to the east, north and west side of the house. Southern sky is mostly open all day to enable maximum solar energy collection.
Cottage at Thorburn Lake NL is 1200 sq.ft, it has southern exposure, can capture passive solar heating and has plenty of natural light during the day. Only one window on the north side of the building.
Trees help protect the north and eastern sides from winter winds.
Unlike the photo voltaic panels which work well throughout the year, the wind turbine adds more energy in the fall and winter. The wind generator is especially helpful when the days are shorter and the cold winds blow in.
The electrical system is a solar-wind hybrid which consists of .7 Kw, a 2.5 Kw generator, 2.5 Kw inverter/charger, 1500 Ahr Deep Cycle Battery Bank, and a monitoring system. The house uses all energy efficient lighting and appliances
