We would like to acknowledge that we’re on the unceded territory of the Mi’kmag people. We are all treaty people. Me, I’m Daniel MacKay, very amateur historian and publisher. Format: people telling stories. at the front of the room there’ll be storytellers. There are two ideas we had in mind to create this event: first, the Mi’kmag tradition of elders sitting at one end of the teepee and taking turns telling stories and others listening. The second is, salons in the grand hotels of Manhattan and Paris in the 1920s with the likes of Gertrude Stein, Alice B Toklas, Oscar Wilde, Toulouse Lautrec, Magnus Hirshfeld, Edna St Vincent Millay and people who would come to hear their wit and wisdom. Our moderator here is Pauline - thank you, Pauline. So, * Speakers: feel free to use the format “That Reminds me of a story.” When someone finishes a story , tell a story that reminds you of that. Or, you might say, “You know, that’s not exactly how I remember it…" * There’s a stack of Ask Me Anything * We’ll break on about the 45 minute mark, have a bio break, and reset for the next session During breaks, feel free to ask them about the history of the queer community in Halifax and Nova Scotia. In the parlour we have food and drink, please grab a plate and a glass and bring it in. Also in the parlour is Chris Aucoin’s History Display concise history of the history of our community in Halifax. Mention: * Washrooms * Archives Project - see me * Recording - will be indexed and added to the Halifax Rainbow Encyclopedia * guest book Do a few words of the early - 1970s - history of the LGBT community in Halifax.
