=Place Names Discussion= Defining Moments Canada (DMC) has a project called Proud to Be: Queer Canadian Histories of the 1960s-1970s. They are creating a map of queer spaces across Canada for young people - junior and senior high school I think. Topic: Places, spaces, that were important to the Q community in the 1960s and 1970s. I anticipate inviting about 15 people. We will make it clear that we have limited room and will be Invitation list goals: representation from: * Old folk who were there * Diversity: Men, women, drag queens, PoC * Academics * Invitation list is below ===Invitation=== We will be discussing and compiling a list of spaces, places, that were relevant to the LGBT community in the 1960s and 1970s. Former owner of Mana Cuisine in Los Angeles. Worked for 10 years in LA and for a number of different kitchens including Grub (Betty Frasier and Ilan Hall - now at Ramen Hood, were both on Top Chef) as chef de partie (various); Bread and Butter Catering (Michael Brooks has been catering for the American Film Institute, the Hollywood Foreign Press and celebrity clients for over 40 years) as chef de partie (various); Bites Catering (Elizabeth Goal has catered private celebrity events for over 20 years) as line cook; Joe Bastianich, as line cook/garde manger for American Idol; Boston Group LA (now Wolfgang Puck) as line cook, grill and garde manger for large events. I am self-taught. If you have knowledge of Q spaces in Nova Scotia in the aulde days, please RSVP. We have to keep the group small and diverse so we won’t be able to have everyone who responds, at the table. ===Food=== I think it would be really good to have finger food in a buffet style, stuff that people could just load onto and refill salad plates or even small things that they could eat with a fork like quiche. I think the criteria should be: * easy for you * not too expensive - say…. ten bucks a person? 15? * more savoury than sweet, considering old people’s diabetes, and filling, as if we’re giving them a deccent meal * and, I think the challenge: a nonalcoholic drink to pair with it. Maybe Costa Rica pear juice which I have a lot of. The food is our bait, our reward for participating, so if you’re cooking, I will need a sentence or two about your experience. =Budget= ||Space- UU Church || 150|| ||Food || 300|| ||Cook - Nathan || 100|| ||Moderator || 50|| ||Writing, Dan + Nathan || 100|| ||Total || '''$700'''|| ||From Defining Moments || ??|| ||From Elderberries / Wayves || ??|| ===A/V=== * I’d like to have a couple maps up — one of Nova Scotia and one of Halifax * and put Post-Its on the map as people talk about things. * Maybe people vote by the number of Post-Its. * Have Post-its pre-prepared with all the places we know about ===Agenda=== ; 1:00 or so : Nathan & Dan show up and set up the space ; 1:30 : moderator arrives ; 1:45 : People start trickling in ; 2:10 : Moderator or I call people to order and explains what’s going on for the day ; 2:15 : Round of introductions ; 2:35 : Blue sky listing of places. ; 3:00 : Bio break ; 3:15 : Discussion of each place and voting. ; 3:45 : wrap up and social time. ===Invitees=== * [ ] Elderberries * [ ] ACQH members * [ ] Ginger * [x] Robin - no, not unless paid * [x] Rebecca * [ ] Reg Giles * [ ] Turrent Society people * [ ] Turret Memories people * [ ] Walter-jij * [x] Nathan's friends Bruce and Deryk ===RSVPs=== We should have representation from men, women, and drag queens. # RSVP's get put here with numbers. ===Volunteer Jobs=== * Videographer * Kitchen / Serving help * Greeter ===Dan To Bring=== * Pear Juice - say 10L * Sweet Cider * Sparkling Cider * 2 x Easels or something for the maps * Maps
