There are two proposals here * One for auxiliary food and drink etc. for the Elders Hangout and * One for a historian to write the story of the inception of GAE. ---- Name: Elders Hangout: Auxiliary Expenses for 50th Anniversary of GAE I am submitting two interrelated proposals. The first is for auxiliary expenses for the Elders Hangout to make it into a celebration of the 50th anniversary of GAE, and the second is for the research and writing of a very short description of the creation of GAE in 1971 - 1972. This is the proposal for the auxiliary expenses to make the Elders Hangout event into a GAE Reunion / 50th Anniversary celebration. Partner Organizations: the Elderberries + Wayves Magazine * Travel expenses for community pioneers who live out of town. * Extra catering * Honoraria for speakers * Possibly arranging a bar for the event, the proceeds will go to a charity, possibly MacPhee Center / Youth Project. See original proposal [[2018 Pride CEFP Proposal]] * A large space, say, the floor part of the big auditorium at the library, or maybe the much smaller Bus Stop Theatre or ex Company House * Finger food and refreshments at a table * Maybe a bar, proceeds going to the Youth Project * Maybe Chris Aucoin’s history exhibit set up on a table in one corner * A few things to sell - maybe bound copies of Scott MacNeil & Reg Giles’ story cycles, mugs, Robin’s This Way Out, or other stuff * Reading of chunks from Reg Giles' and Scott MacNeil's pieces with q&a after. * Colouring book sheets and pencils & crayons out, with images from lgbt halifax. * Computer with big screen and a slideshow of old photos, with two Elders to narrate and answer questions. Budget * $300 catering * $400 travel expenses for out-of-town pioneers * $200 honoraria for moderators / oral historians * $100 design & printing of handouts with some uRLs * $200 tours (travel + refreshments) for the Green Lantern Building and Turret Building if possible. * (2-300 contributed by Elderberries) * Total $900 requested from Pride ===Part 1: Elders Hangout / 50th Anniversary Reunion=== ''Title'' GAE 50th Anniversary Reunion (an enhanced Elders Hangout event) ''In 150 words or less, please summarize your event'' This is a classic reunion style event. Anytime during a four-hour window, drop in, people can grab some food and a beverage, sit down and catch up with fellow silverbacks OR engage in some storytelling of Halifax's rich queer history OR sit back and listen in. There will be moderated storytelling, arranged into 1-hour blocks on stage at the front of the space, and a "hangout" part at the back. At the front of the tent we'll have a slideshow, a presentation about the beginnings of GAE, and some discussions of historical finer points. This is billed as an Elders Hangout, but all are welcome. There'll be discussions about how the world is different, or you can just sit back and listen to the old-timers tell stories about the good, and bad, old days. The event will be Part of the funding is for a couple tours of places significant to our community; these wouldn't be during the Hangout but at other times during the Festival. ===Pride Questions 2=== ''Print Description'' Calling all elders and friends of elders! This year, we are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the creation of the Gay Alliance for Equality, fifty years of an organized 2SLGBTQ+ community, and that deserves a reunion. There'll be conversation and catching up, panel talks, story telling, and food, and cake. We'll have hot finger food available for the duration, so skip supper and bring your appetite. ''In 150 words or less, please summarize your event'' This proposal is a request for funding for a researcher / writer to do interviews and write, the story of what must have been a lightening-fast pace of people saying, "We have to do something" and doing it, in Halifax in 1971. Stonewall in New York was in 1969; we registered a society with the Registry of Joint Stocks in 1972. Something must have happened in 1971 to bring people together, at a kitchen table, or a party; there must have been a reason for it. This research will reveal the reasons and the process. The format will be under 1000 words, in an exciting style very reminiscent of the telling of the New York Stonewall story. The Elderberries and Wayves will be supporting this project both financially and with people's time. Producer/publisher Dan MacKay is in discussion with a couple of very good journalists, researchers and writers; he can supply the name of the first choice, a young trans woman journalist, fine writer and interviewer, who is excited about the project. I am submitting two interrelated proposals. The other is for auxiliary expenses for the Elders Hangout to make it into a celebration of the 50th anniversary of GAE. ''In 150 words or less, please summarize your reasons for hosting this event'' There is a piece of gay Halifax history that hasn't been told in either Rebecca Rose's _Before The Parade_ or in the Halifax Rainbow Encyclopedia, and for a number of reasons, this is an important time to do it: * it is the 50th anniversary of the event * this story has not been documented and it is one of a kind; it is a story that will be reprinted and retold forever, and * the people who can tell the story are getting very old and we will not be able to tell the story for much longer. ===Pride Questions 2=== ''Print Description'' Presentation of the story of GAE's genesis story, how the organization came about, written from interviews with the people who were there.
