Present: Stephanie Kevin Lynn, Allison, Pauline, Anita, Barend 1. Barend withdrew his previous motion that the Elderberries allocate $500.00 for a journalist to produce a document about the 1972 founding of the Gay Alliance for Equality. A wide ranging discussion ensued. Everyone concluded we need more information. So Allison tabled a motion. Motion # 2 That Elderberries endorse Dan MacKay's idea of a document being created about the legal creation of The Gay Alliance of Equality in 1972. However,we require more information about said document before we vote on it. Concern # 1. (Raised by Allison) That Pride Halifax be asked to clarify if they are still boycotting the Halifax Public Library because they refused to ban a book about gender transitioning, objected to by an unidentified group's petition. Action: Barend will email Adam Reid about this. Concern #2 (Raised by Lynn) We need a readily available document of our Elderberries Bylaws. This is, so we can familiarise ourselves with its guidelines and prohibitions. Second, we could reform and tailor it (with amendments) more to our specific needs. Action: We will find a way to make the by laws easily accessible. Conclusion: We will meet via Zoom on May 8th at 6 PM to discuss and decide upon the aforesaid motions and concerns. NOTE : Correction and clarification The actual text of the motion that was tabled was : "That Elderberries endorse the development of a document covering the origins fifty years ago of the Gay Alliance for Equality." The part about "more information" was not included in that motion, as we did not proceed to amendments before the motion was tabled, but FYI, topics mentioned as possibly needing more info were : credentials of the writer, scope of the project, timeline, distribution plan. Barend K. Please add any corrections and clarifications to this record of the minutes. Thank you.
