Present: Lynn, Anita, Hal & Dan (notes) Regrets: Hugo & Heather, who has started a new course and has to resign from this committee Welcome. Approval of the agenda. Minutes of last meeting have been lost. Outstanding Business: Future Programs: * October 17th Sunday, Spencer House, 2:00 - 5:00 * November 21st, Sunday, Spencer House, 2:00 - 5:00 : Being Single, round table. * December 10th, Friday, 7:00 - 10:00: Seasonal Party * January: Sunday, January 16th: What do you do with the winter blues? Mike with his ukelele? Norval? Austin? * February: Sunday, February 20th: Bring a few of your favourite photos * March: Sunday, March 20th: possible topic: saving money, getting good deals, financial matters. All the meetings are pot luck. A couple of people have observed that the round table discussion takes up a lot of time. People would prefer a couple of speakers, and then some social time. Tuma's October 17 presentation: 30 minutes + Q & A? Check with him. November: Pot luck December: ask people for a donation of $2.00 to pay for the Sky Lounge at Nick & Dumas' ? Seems totally reasonable. Party will be BYOB. Dan can bring a folder of music. Should we have a coordinator for the different kinds of food? Maybe we can do some of it in the November meeting. Hal sent a thank-you card to Leonard Preyra. Anita offered to make more personal cards when we need them. Report on the visit to the Women's Council House: Leonard Preyra can have four community events per month using the downstairs space there. We may want to take advantage of Leonard's space for special occasions. The space has space for seating for about thirty. DAN will invite Walter to the next Elders meeting. Discussion of Hal's Questionnaire: * HAL will revise according to our discussion today, * we'll discuss the questionnaire online, * give it out at the meeting on the 17th, * and then send it out in email to the members. Name of the organization: we should come up with a short list of possible names and let the larger group vote on it. If someone writes a letter to the existing members, Dan will send it out to the old Over 30s snail-mail list. NICK will write the letter and send it around. Transportation issues: Hal will clarify this in the questionnaire. HAL will sending a request from the NSRAP Health Committee to Wayves magazine, asking for positive stories from the queer community about their experiences with the healthcare system. Other Business: * Meeting on the afternoon of Sunday, October 31st with people from Northwood and other elder healthcare organization. It will probably be at The Company House. We will especially want to collect firsthand stories Agenda for next meeting: * How can we draw more people from outside Halifax into the elders group?
