Defining Moments Canada (DMC) has a project called Proud to Be: Queer Canadian Histories of the 1960s-1970s. They are creating a map of queer spaces across Canada for young people - junior and senior high school I think.
Topic: Places, spaces, that were important to the Q community in the 1960s and 1970s.
I anticipate inviting about 15 people. We will make it clear that we have limited room and will be creating a specificically diverse room.
Invitation list goals: representation from:
The event is sponsored by Proud To Be Canada. Proud to Be is creating curriculum items for high school students in Canada, including an interactive map of "walking tours" of historically significant places. On November 27 we will be figuring out what those places for Halifax and Nova Scotia should be.
We will be discussing and compiling a list of spaces and places that were relevant to the LGBT community in the 1960s and 1970s.
If you have knowledge of Q spaces and places in Nova Scotia in the aulde days, please RSVP. We have to keep the group small and diverse so we won’t be able to have everyone who responds, at the table.
The event will be held during a High Tea - a substantial mid-afternoon meal, so bring your appetite. Your chef will be Elderberries member Nathan Elling, former owner of Mana Cuisine in Los Angeles. Nathan worked for 10 years in LA catering large events and private parties.
The food is our bait, our reward for participating. Menu - Afternoon Tea
