Particulars: Afternoon of 22 January 2023, RadStorm

At 5:00 on Sunday, I am putting all the remaining books in the dumpster. Dan is not taking them home.

To Do

ASAP

• Pick a time & venue
• Venus Envy, Glitter Bean & Books Behind Bars for leftovers -- all handled via Cecilia Masimo
• Make "Early Decisions" below

When the Early Decisions are done:

• Later Decisions
• Create the Facebook event
• Notify the people in the To Contact list, below
• Notify local authors

• Cecilia will make a poster to put up at the Glitter Bean... maybe Staggers

Three days before

• Reminder to Elderberries
• Dig out Dan’s old porn magazines for the guy who wants the preview

• Make up a labelled Freewill Offering box (maybe Dan's purple sparkle box)

Day Before

• Check in with "Who Does What" list (below) to see who will show up tomorrow
• Make float for the cash box - 20 x $1, 10 x 2$, 12 x $5 = $100.

The Elderberries Q Book Sale!!

Here’s how it works:

• You donate 2SLGBTQ++ books that you need to downsize
• You (and everyone) come to the book sale to buy books for a buck or two each
• Proceeds go to the Elderberries & Radstorm
• Porn? Sure, bring porn. It’ll go on its own table.

So:

• Mark your calendar for the book sale day (below), and
• Start gathering up the Q books you need to say goodbye to!

WHERE: RadStorm, 2177 Gottingen Street WHEN: 1 - 4:30pm on Sunday, January 22nd

To donate books,

• please email elderberries-books@bonmot.ca and
• plan to get the books to us by January 20th.

Call For Help For End Of Day

OK here's the important thing I need help with: At the end of the day, leftover books are going into the dumpster. I know that the very next day, SOMEONE will say, YOU MONSTER HOW COULD YOU!! ORGANIZATION X WOULD HAVE LOVED TO HAVE THOSE!! YOU ARE AN EVIL BAD PERSON!!

Which I don't want to happen.

So it's important that I contact EVERY POSSIBLE ORGANIZATION that might want them, and we need to be seen to be doing that.

So I need your help identifying those.

Who Does What

• Richard Will look up prices on valuable books
• Dan book the space
• Who will run the coffee shop?
• Who will take the rare books to the book store?
• Five guys to shift the books that morning
• Day of, show up, staff
  • Dan

• Barend: write up payment slips so the Cash person doesn't have to do math
• Cecilia Masimo will arrange for a use for the leftover books. Make a poster to put up at the Glitter Bean... maybe Staggers

Volunteers get first dibs on the books.

Later Decisions

Flat Rate to Radstorm vs. Elderberries & Radstorm

• Lynn: Would rather they get a set amount rather than a cut of sales
• Dan: events Sorting / Tables
• Lynn: People mostly buy fiction by genre and then by author; non-fiction by subject.
• Lynn: Set rare books aside to go to a secondhand bookstore later
  • Dan says: we'll need to find someone to do this.

How can we let Glitter Bean Library / BBB Get A Reasonable Selection?

Should we let volunteers get a first crack at the books?

• Lynn: Don't we want the customers to have first crack?
• Richard: Someone mentioned first crack at the books should maybe be the customer not volunteer or something to that extent.... we would be paying customers and volunteers so don't see the difference .

Layout

Porn on its own table. We should be prepared for separate tables for male and female porn.

Barend says: Separate displays/tables for hard covers, soft covers, mags, porn. IF TIME group by subject. IE biographies, novels etc in separate stacks. Place "cashier" at the beginning of the display tables to avoid er missing payments.

Early Decisions

Is there any reason NOT to have price tags on some books?

• Dan's idea.
• Decision: no. We'll do price tags.

Is there any reason not to do some consignment books?

• Dan has a very easy tracking system for it
• Decision: no. We'll do consignment if asked.

The name of the event

Time of the event

• My original plan: 1 - 4
• Erick: yar 1-4
• Richard: earlier is better - 12-3, 12-4.
• Final: 1 - 4 for the main sale. Pay what you can starting at 4:00. Cleaning up leftovers at 4:30. Remainders go into the dumpster at 5:00.

Prices

• Lynn: Soft cover 50¢, hard cover 1$, magazine 50¢, we don't have coins so you have to buy two
• Erick: I personally think it should be $1 for softcover and $2 for hardcover
• Barend:
  • "How much is this book worth to you?"
  • Hard cover $5, Soft cover $3, Magazine $1 End of Day Pricing
• Dan: We could also mark down the price as the afternoon goes on, until at 4:00 they are all free.
  • Erick: Not a great idea
  • Barend agrees
  • Barend: LAST HR PRICE SLASH. Cut prices to $1.00 or $0.50 for everything.
  • Barend: Everything is free the last hour or 30 minutes.
  • Erick: 4:00pm: pay what you want for 5 books at a time
• Final: Unless marked: hard cover $2, magazines & soft cover $1. Pay what you can starting at 4:00, over at 4:30.

Do we want a coffee & Sit down and chat area?

• Dan says, "Sure if someone volunteers to bring coffee, milk, sugar & make the coffee. I have a MOUNTAIN of styrofoam cups."

Start gathering up LGBT books you want to get rid of!

Later in January, the Elderberries will be running a Q Book Exchange Fund Raiser Flea Market. Here’s how it will work:

• You donate 2SLGBTQ++ books
• You (and everyone) will be invited to a flea market on a Sunday afternoon, to buy books very cheaply
• Proceeds go to the Elderberries & Radstorm
• Porn? Sure, bring porn. It’ll go on its own table.
