Present: Kairlin Drury, Pauline Federick (from UK via Zoom), Lynn Murphy,Nathan Elling and Barend Kamperman
Here are my transcribed notes of our Elderberries Board meeting. Please correct any errors and omissions.
After discussion we decided that Lynn would add revisions, agreed upon, to Jacquie Gahagan's template letter supporting her SSHRC Connection grant application. The application deadline in April 15th. Lynn will email her revised version to Barend to sign and pass on to Jaquie Gahagan.
Nathan agreed to handle the Elderberries Speakers Bureau and dealing with the GSA organisation.
The slated speakers will meet at the GSA Conference on April 12th in the Navigator East Room in the Four Points Conference Centre at 11:30 AM. We will go with the free bag lunches provided.
We agreed to do a Zoom Speakers post mortem of our April 12th GSA event. This to evaluate what went right, wrong or could have been better.
We will run a Speakers Bureau Training at Northwood on May 25th. We will promote that in our newsletter.
Barend will (and has) contacted therapist, Bruce Dow to do a salon workshop on relationship violence on October 12th or 26th. If he accepts we will book the date.
Treasurer, Kaitlin Drury wrote a cheque for $50.00 (signed by Barend) to Lynn Murphy. This was to reimburse Lynn for paying said amount to a presenter, Katerina Kabolias.
We discussed clarifying a policy on honorariums and expenses. To differentiate the two. First we have to peruse the bylaws. We'll revisit that another time.
We discussed the possibility of changing banks. But decided we needed more information to work with.
Kaitlin gave her Treasurer report. Expenses and income basically. Income $1,189,14. Expenses -$3,000.73! We agreed we had to separate transactions of the Anita Martinez Archive fundraiser from our TD Bank account. We will need more information and discussion to chart the best course.
For Pride Halifax 2025 we decided we'll run an Elders Hangout in a tent preferably (or at the United Unitarian Church on Inglis St.) We want a loop slideshow of the community's history, a slab cake, 8 round tables with 6 chairs (or more), a cooler with free non alcoholic drinks, maybe an ASL signer, a speaker OR an entertainer/comedian. We could finance our own second, separate Hfx Pride event as well.
Barend agreed to write up the proposal and email it to Halifax Pride asap, before the deadline.
I asked Board members to add other tweaks or suggestions.
Barend Kamperman, Chair of the Elderberries
