Deb Fowler:
- the thought of History UnErased was created ten years ago in a classroom.
- Unerasing black, women, indigenous, AARI ?? minorities as well as 2SLGBT histories.
- The good news from yesterday can bring us and the archive into schools.
- Everyone in the organization is an educator.
- "We teachers have experienced terrible professonal development."
- Our model is a whole- school or whole-district.
- The price point is very low.
- BUT having that purchase order is important.
- It’s a supplemental curriculum, integrating into what teachers are teaching.
- Primary source based content.
- The heartbeat of what we do is the training. We deal with a lot of misunderstandings up front, too.
Education nonprofit, not advocacy.
There are a variety of tools that lead you to the resources so that teachers can design and control the content / curriculum in a variety of ways.
Interactive, multimedia. 5 hours customized live virtual training.
Interactive games are throughout the curriculum - encouraging students to think analytically.
We watched the trailer for Pauli Murray (1910- 1975) - first in her class at Howard University Law school and the only woman. She is the first African American to earn a J.S.D. from Yale Law, and someone who we think figured out that she was transgendered and pursued hormonal treatment - but never got it.
Next steps:
- Elderberries -- Nate -- will continue with the GSA liaison project
- Elderberries -- Barend -- will tell our members about this new relationship
