Elderberries Board meeting about the 2024 Provincial ActionPlan project.
On Zoom.
Present: Kaitlin, Lynn, Barend, Dan (notes)
I'll be presenting to the client, the Province of Nova Scotia, and the project lead, Miranda Romkey, "the client."
Topic: the Project Launch Meeting with the client on Friday,
Here's what I'll present on Friday:
- What I think the project is about
- What I think they want
- How I’d like to carry it out ("Methodology" in the main project document)
- Questions for Miranda (again in the main project document)
Dan presented his credentials: doing this kind of work, "Qualitative Analysis" for work for a couple years at Dalhousie. We'll collect stories, extract themes from them, and then get supporting quotes for those conclusions. We won't be using "23% of respondents said that..." format.
Discussion:
- Dan: I am going to propose that I get hired for a substantial amount of the $2500 to compile the raw data and write the report.
- Lynn: You may have to recuse yourself from the board for that.
- Lynn: We are the Elderberries, and we need to focus on concerns that are specific to us as elders. Housing and access to doctors are not directly in scope - although housing could be, e.g. because of homo- trans-phobic landlords.
- Lynn: I did the survey as far as I could, when I got to the concerns, it was questions about “What have you experienced in terms of homophobia?” The survey was focussed on past events. We’re concerned about future events. If Trump gets in and Poiliviere gets in, we will be in a different world.
- Lynn: Out of the city members should be specifically requested - and we should make an outreach to them and make sure their voices are heard as distinct.
- Dan: I would also like to reserve part of the meetings to discuss with people, What can be done?
- Barend: Keeping in mind, within the Q community: anti-cis sentiment; re-demonization of white cis folk, anti-white racism, ageism
- Barend: List of guidelines, parameters.
