Remembering Raymond Taavel, worker for 2SLGBTQ+ rights, early Halifax Pride organizer, and later co-Chair. He organized Years of Pride reception to recognize community Queer pioneers, Eastern Canada representative on the Fierte Canada Pride, chaired local drag organization ISCANS. Prolific fundraiser, writer, mentor of writers, part of the Wayves team and... senselessly murdered in 2012 just short of his 50th birthday. You are invited! Elderberries of Atlantic Canada is hosting a celebration for Raymond on what would be his 62nd birthday, on the afternoon of June 9th.
All welcome. Please share this event in your socials.
We'll bring a barbecue, hot dogs, hamburgers, beverages, and of course, cake. If you can, please bring a chair or two, and if you want, bring something to share and/or something for the BBQ.
Fair weather location: Raymond Taavel Park at the corner of Barrington and Inglis.
Bad weather location: 2630 Gottingen St (Gottingen Street door of Northwood), Halifax.
Sunday, June 9, from 1 until 4 p.m. Check back here after 11 on that day for confirmation of the location.

There are two plans, Plan A & Plan B.
Either event should have... say.. three volunteers. We'll ask the Remembering Raymond Taavel FB page and the elderberries for volunteers.
We call Plan A or Plan B at 10:45AM on Sunday. At 11:00AM, Dan updates
Plan A: good weather for a picnic.
- Location: Raymond Taavel Park
- There is no need to officially book the park via Halifax Parks & Recreation
- Setup starts at 12:30 - chairs, tables, beverages & BBQ
- Volunteers take turns at the BBQ
- People show up at 1:00
- We do the program (below)
- People can leave at, say 4:00pm
- Pack up stuff at 4:30
Plan B: bad weather, no picnic
- Location our regular space at Northwood
- Setup starts at 12:30
- We will not be able to cook anything.
- Volunteers handle the front door, the raffle etc.
- People show up at 1:00
- We do the program (below)
- People can leave at, say 3:45
- Pack up stuff at 4:00
