Board Meeting at Lynn Murphy's home 2 PM ~ 4:30 PM
Present: Lynn M. Rennee C, Kaitlin, Barend K (THE SCRIBE)
1) For Halifax Pride in July
we want to do a Youth/Elders StoryTelling with youth from the MacPhee Centre for Creative Learning. Have another Elders Hangout.
- Renee checked the Pride Halifax website. Their cutoff date for submitting events is April 30. Barend will reach out to Adam Reid who is back with Halifax Pride now.
The Pride Guide publication deadline is today(?) My thought: We need to email our submissions as soon as possible to get the publicity of the widely distributed Pride Guide
2) SALONS & EVENTS
- May 12th Barend will give a presentation about living in Japan in the 1990s hopefully with a slide show
- May 25th Kaitlin will organise an RSVP event for an Elderberries meal together at Jim's Restaurant, Bedford Highway in the early afternoon.
- June 9th Lynn will persuade 1 of 2 possible authors to talk about their book and the writing process.
- 2nd Event Renee will try to arrange a viewing of stained glass windows made by Lynette
- July 2nd Two activities connected to the Halifax Pride festival. The Youth & Elders Storytelling session and an Elders Hangout
- August 8th A picnic at Point Pleasant Park or the Public Gardens.
- August 15th is the rain date. Or we could go back to Northwood on a rainy day. So, we had better keep it officially booked through the summer.
- September 8th A picnic at Point Pleasant Park
- October 13th/November 10th/December Salons and events were not finalised. Possible topics are:- Dealing with trauma, Homophobia in families. Have a cookbook writer discuss the Middle East dishes' ethnic origins. Have another author in to discuss their book and methodology. Faith & Spirituality in the queer community. Metis Francophone culture and history with a local straight elder presenting.
3) OTHER CONSIDERATIONS:-
AV presentations. Northwood has smart tvs we can use for power point and slide show presentations. We could have a tutorial on how to use them. We could offer that opportunity to our membership as well.
Honorariums. We have given them before. Not to those who were publicising their book through a salon.
Non-queer community topics. We should keep our focus on rainbow issues but we have had well received presentations about gardening, wood working , polar bear research, walking the Camino etc.
Renee has just joined the Women Next Door. Perhaps she could coax them to be more involved with us.
