Meeting with Service Canada

Service Canada: Shannon Millward & Philippe Ouimet

Elderberries: Barend & Dan and... Lynn got stood up!

We had planned to meet at the Glitter Bean, but when we got there, it was closed for some kind of maintenance! So we waited a bit and then went up the street to Subway which has tables in the sun.

Lynn showed up shortly after, but there was no way to tell her that we had moved so she got left behind. Sorry, Lynn!

Shannon & Phil's job is to tell people about Service Canada's offerings and answer questions about them.

The new thing is, the Dental program.

Dan brought up the possibility of an on line "Navigator" - they already have one, called Benefits Finder.

We should kick around the idea of one of the "barriers" to accessing Service Canada, as fear of homophobia. Shannon should talk about the LGBT specifics of, "is a family."

What kind of questions will our members have?

• Am I eligible?
• When will I be eligible?
• Are there any hidden costs?
• What is a family?

So, the plan:

• April Second Sunday Salon - April 14
• 1 hour presentation / questions + social time with more Qs

To-Dos:

• SHANNON will send 100-200 words about the presentation for the newsletter
• SHANNON will send a bunch of links that they talk about in the presentation
• DAN will make the links into a Wayves article that we can email to our members
