Location: The Univeralist Unitarian church building 5500 Inglis Street, Halifax
Time: 6 pm to 7:20 pm
PRESENT: Barend Kamperman, Pauline Federick, Dan MacKay, Doug Fevens, Ann Gorman and Anita Martinez.
FOCUS: Planning our July 22nd Pride Salon at the same location
FOOD CONSIDERATIONS:
- Richard Crooks and Mike Sangster will oversee that.
- Doug Fevens will help in the kitchen.
- Anita and the Board decided what items and quantities will bought from COSTCO.
- Dan will find two volunteers to help her transport the items to the Salon location.
- The Board decided on a Food Budget of $250.00.
- Anita will pay for it with her VISA and the Treasurer will reimburse her later.
- We will borrow five table table cloths from the church for our food display and pay to have them cleaned and pressed afterward.
SPEAKERS and HONORARIA:
- Our confirmed speakers are:- Chris Aucoin, Loren Izzard, Dr.Bob Frederickson, Jane Kansas, Ramona Westgate, Chris Fraser, Nuri and Glen Walton.
- We will give each one who speaks $20.00, and Elderberries mug and a special thank you card. The thank you cards and their envelopes will be written out on the day as some speakers may not show.
- A donation of $40.00 will be given to the UUC for the use of their space.
VOLUNTEERS FOR THE DAY:
- Dan MacKay, the organiser of this Salon, has a list of people and will designate their responsibilities and oversee set up, lay out and take down.
- Some individuals can only be there for a part of our allotted time.
- Apart from food staff, they are:- Trish Sparks, Darlene Weber, Clove Havida?, Linda Furlotte, Ann ?, Shamus ? and Norval ?.
- Dan will purchase ice for the event that day.
- Pauline Federick has agreed to act as the moderator at the Salon.
SALON DETAILS:
- Pride Halifax has given the Elderberries $550.00 for our Salon expenses.We'll add on $250.00 for a total of $780.00 for the event's budget.
- Anita will get a "Guest Book" with a comments section for attendees to write in.It will be placed on the welcome desk.
- Dan will write an announcement to be made, (to the effect) that we cannot guarantee a 100% comfortable safe space as we cannot know or control what participants or guests, believe or may say.
- Elderberries mugs will be sold. Elderberries all occasion cards (Pack of five for $8.00) will be sold too.Anita will print the extra cards needed.
- Dan will set up Chris Aucoin's LGBTQ history display in the entrance room.
- The Intergenerational Storytelling will be held in the (larger) worship space and set up for speakers and visitors.The back deck too can be used to relax and talk.
- Dan MacKay will see that an audio recording of the storytelling will be made for preservation.
OTHER ACTIONS:
- We all signed get well cards for Paula Wedge and Scott McNeil. Dan will deliver Scott's card. Anita and Barend will bring Paula hers.
Pride Halifax has donated a viewing tent for our use, to be delivered at our assigned viewing spot, across from the Lord Nelson Hotel. We need volunteers there when it is dropped off. (Do they need to set it up, or will there be help?) One or more persons must be there to keep squatters off our spot. Are there any volunteers?
