2018-11-21 NSRAP Meeting

Notes by Norval

I attended the November 21st meeting of NSRAP representing Elderberries. I had met with Dan earlier in the day to make sure I was up to speed with recent Elderberry discussions. I made sure to inform them that NSRAP is recognized at all Elderberries events and on our printed material.

I reported that our main focus has generally been elder care for the LGBT+ community - that includes both staff at care facilities but also helped other residents understand and accept our members in their facility and activities.

I also reported that the Board has decided to rename our 2nd Sunday events to an Elder Salon, following the success of the Salon during Pride Week, and that the Elderberries would like to move away from a pot-luck and be able to provide more hors d’oeuvres type snacks. Some financial support from NSRAP would help this transition - I think I suggested something like $100 per month.

In financial reporting, the NSRAP Treasurer stated the current balance of the association was $18,450, which would seem adequate to provide some additional support to the Elderberries.

Overall the Board was supportive and interested in potential assistance from Elderberries members in education and speaker initiatives. Some of the requests have been passed on to the Elderberries where deemed appropriate.

I had another commitment and could only stay for the first hour of the meeting. I am now on the mailing list for notices and should be able to phone in even while I’m Costa Rica.

Norval also says: at the point I left they had not discussed any specifics so I can't really say anything other than I put forward the request and they have money - they were curious why and I did my best to explain why [we] would want hors d'ouevres instead of pot luck. I said the salon at Pride 2018 had worked so very well that wanted to use it as a model
