Brian Watling: Financing Wind Energy

Brian's group has built an RRSP fund that would be used to develop business in Nova Scotia. Projects include a concrete facility in Chester, and a downtown business development in Windsor. They are now looking at alternative energy.

Wind power in Europe is growing at 25-40%/year. There are good examples of technology used in Co-op model. Equity finance is different; it needs a board of directors which brings some strength to the business.

There is a 30% investment tax credit and 20% guarantee if you're outside HRM.

In December, the Energy Strategy came down - "ye shall have guaranteed access to the grid, and customers, at a fair price."

Approval Of Last Years Minutes

Keith noted that the totals of Recepts & expenditures, $3204.53 should be $3024.53

Motion to approve the amended minutes by Keith, 2nded by Carolyn

Chair's Report

The last year has been busy with home tours, home shows, solar shelter courses, and submissions to the province's energy policy development.

Solar Nova Scotia carried on activities last year, including:

Last year we made some improvements to Solar Nova Scotia's display used at the home shows, and plan to keep making improvements this year. We also video taped the Solar Shelter course this past year for use in developing training materials.

The web site plays an important role in gaining interest in Solar Nova Scotia. Dan MacKay has been keeping the site current with events, minutes, and has even added some images of Solar houses. The URL is http://chebucto.ns.ca/Technology/SolarNS/.

We would like to get more involved in the weekly home magazines and our big project should be the Millenium Home Inventory. This year we want to focus on training people to help deliver parts of the solar shelter course, and getting the Millenium Home Inventory Project underway. We'll have two breakout groups for more details about these two projects after the business part of the agm.

The SNS crew continues to hold informal gatherings at Maxwell's Plum on Friday afternoons at 5:00. Everyone is welcome.
